FAQ

Before you call a Hoboken tow truck at night: the questions people ask us most

Someone is on the phone all night, you get the figure first, locked garages and the Terminal area are no problem, city tows and boots are handled by the city, and you need no membership.

It is 2 a.m. on Washington Street and my car will not start. Will anyone pick up?

Yes, a live dispatcher, every night including holidays. (908) 666-3168 rings the person who moves our trucks, not an answering service. Late weekend nights on Washington Street are some of our busiest hours in Hoboken, so the call is routine for us.

Linden is not next door. How long will I really wait in Hoboken?

From the yard it is about 32 minutes by the Turnpike and the Extension, and we say so up front. At night a truck is often already in Jersey City or on the Extension, so the dispatcher times your window from that truck. The south end near the Terminal is usually quickest, uptown the slowest.

How much is a tow in Hoboken in the middle of the night?

The same as at noon: $149 by phone for dispatch and hook-up, or $129 if you book online. Mileage to your chosen destination is quoted before the truck leaves. A jump, tire change, lockout or fuel drop is one flat price, and the prices page shows it all.

The city towed my car or put a boot on it. Can you get it back?

No. Hoboken's parking enforcement, booting and impound belong to the city, and only the city can release a car it took or booted. We have no role in that. Once you have it back, if it will not start or needs to go to a shop, call us and we will take it from there.

My building's garage locks at night. Can your driver still get my car out?

Usually, with help from the building. Call the front desk or the super first so someone can open the gate, then give the dispatcher the address, the level and the entrance. Most Hoboken residential decks are too low for a flatbed, so the driver brings the car up to the street before loading.

I came off the last train at Hoboken Terminal and my battery is dead. Tow or jump?

Try the jump first. It is one flat price, and a car that sat all day in the cold usually starts with a proper jump pack. If it will not hold a charge, the driver quotes the tow right there, with no second trip.

My street flooded overnight and the car sat in water. What should I do?

Do not try to start it. Tell the dispatcher the car was in water and roughly how high it came. It goes on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground, and the driver checks the depth before backing in, which matters on the low blocks of the west side.

Can a tow truck even fit on my block? The street is lined with cars on both sides.

Almost always. A wheel-lift fits where a flatbed cannot, and skates can roll a car sideways out of a tight space. Tell the dispatcher which curb the car is on and the nearest cross street so the truck comes in from the right end of the block.

I locked my keys in the car near Pier A Park. How fast can you open it?

A lockout is one flat price, and the driver uses non-marring tools, so no broken glass. The waterfront by Pier A Park and Sinatra Drive is quick to reach from the south end of town. Tell dispatch whether the keys are in the cabin or the trunk.

Is there an extra charge for towing at night, on a weekend or on a holiday?

No. The booking fee and the mileage rate are the same every hour of every day. There is no fuel surcharge either, and no fee for a passenger in the cab.

Do you tow electric cars and all-wheel-drive SUVs from Hoboken?

Yes, on a flatbed with all four wheels up and straps at the tires. Tell us the make when you call. Lowered and sports cars get a low-angle approach so nothing scrapes.

I broke down on the Turnpike on the way home to Hoboken. Can you get me?

On the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway the shoulder itself is served by the Turnpike Authority's authorized garages; book with us anyway, and once the authorized truck has the car off the highway we take it from the exit or the garage's lot to the shop or driveway you choose, at the same flat quoted price. Once you are on Hoboken streets, or anywhere off the Turnpike, it is a direct dispatch.

My car stalled on the Lincoln Tunnel helix. Who handles that?

The helix and the tunnel are Port Authority ground, so their crews make the first move. Once the car is off their property, call us and we take it from where they left it to the shop you choose, at the price quoted on the call.

Where does my car go after you tow it?

Wherever you say: a mechanic in Hoboken or Jersey City, a dealer in Secaucus, your parking space uptown. We do not steer cars to a storage yard, and there is no storage charge on a car delivered straight to its destination.

Can I ride in the tow truck at night?

Yes, one or two passengers ride in the cab free. If there are more of you, tell the dispatcher and we will work it out, because nobody gets left on Observer Highway at 3 a.m.

Do I need AAA or a roadside plan to use you?

No membership is needed. Anyone can call and pay the quoted price. If a plan or insurer covers towing, keep our itemized receipt and file it yourself; at night that is often faster than waiting for the plan to find a truck willing to come into Hoboken.

My restaurant's delivery van will not start before the morning run. Can you help?

Yes. We tow vans, box trucks and shuttle buses with medium and heavy-duty trucks from the same Linden yard. Give the dispatcher the address and the vehicle, and ask about a fleet account with net terms if it keeps happening.

How do I pay the driver at 4 a.m.?

Cash, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover, at the drop-off. Businesses can set up fleet accounts on net terms with one monthly invoice.

Is booking online really cheaper than calling?

Yes, by $20. Book online and the booking fee is $129 instead of $149. If you are stuck in traffic or in the dark, call (908) 666-3168 instead, because speed counts more than the saving.

Is there a tow truck near me in Hoboken right now?

Often closer than you would think. Our trucks work Jersey City, Bayonne and the Extension through the night. Call with a cross street, a building name or a station lot and the dispatcher gives you the real arrival time of the nearest one.

Are you hiring tow truck drivers for Hudson County?

Yes: flatbed and wheel-lift drivers, owner-operators with their own trucks, and roadside providers. See the driver jobs page for open seats and how to apply.
